FREQUENTLY ASKED COOKIE QUESTIONS

  • Why do you only offer your cookies to the Santa Clarita Valley?
We operate under the California Cottage Food Act and it limits the area in which we can operate.
  • What is the California Cottage Food Act? Why is the Borkowski Cookie Co operating under it?
The California Homemade Food Act created a new category of retail food facilities known as a Cottage Food Operation (CFO), which allows persons using home kitchens to make and sell non-potentially hazardous foods. Borkowski Cookie Company is one of those CFO's. It gives us a chance to test market our cookies without the upfront costs and overhead associated with a full retail business.
  • Why Chunks and not Chips?
To be honest, the best chocolate to use is hand chopped off of a quality block of chocolate. But when making large batches, this isn't very practical. So, which to use? We tried Chips and didn't like the taste and there was uneven distribution in the cookies. Next was supermarket Chocolate Chunks. These were ok, but still not perfect. Then we discovered the Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chunks from Trader Joes. These were irregular in there shape and were the closest to hand chopped that we found. They are almost 60 % cacao, with a nice balance of bittersweet cocoa and sweetness, as well as a touch of vanilla. The chunks melt smoothly and taste amazing. So, it's Chunks and not Chips.
  • How can I get my Borkowski Cookies?

  • What's the best way to store my Borkowski Cookies? How long do they stay fresh?
We don't use preservatives in our cookies. So they are best eaten sooner than later. With that said, they are best kept in an airtight container. If you haven't eaten them in three days, (we'd be shocked...) you can always freeze them. They are delicious heated for about 10 seconds in the microwave or eaten frozen. Which ever way, just enjoy!
